Susie Owens, HHP

British by birth, American by choice, Susie J Owens has made the United States her home for the past 40 years. In all that time, she considers being a certified Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP) one of her greatest achievements second only to the birth of her daughter, Tammy, who is a doctor of veterinary medicine.

With a life-long passion for self-health, nutrition and cooking Susie set out over a decade ago on a very personal journey, a quest of sorts…  As she recalls, “I had reached a point in my life where I realized my lucrative career in sales was feeding my pocket book and not my soul’s purpose.  And, it was making me sick, I had chronic fatigue syndrome!  Something kept haunting me, I had heard Wayne Dyer say, don’t die with your music inside of you”, a quote from Tolstoy and those few words kept looping in my head and became the catalyst for change.

In 2007 Susie decided to throw caution to the wind and fled the status quo to fulfil her dream despite being a little uncertain of exactly what that dream was going to look like!  The first step was to become certified as a Trainer/Master Practitioner of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) with the world-renowned Tad James, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  NLP blends hypnosis, gestalt therapy and family therapy and explores how the mind processes information.  Next an unexpected move to San Diego presented the opportunity to train at the Natural Healing Institute, in Encinitas, California.  This broadened Ms. Owens scope where she focused on nutrition, aromatherapy and herbology to become certified as a Holistic Health Practitioner.  It wasn’t always an easy path to follow, she recounts, there were many pitfalls along the way, but ultimately it was well worth the sacrifices and a testament to never giving up on your dreams!

With the formal training under her belt plus a lifetime of knowledge and experience which included studying the esoteric such as Kabbalah to quantum physics, Susie felt that she was now in the position to create a dynamic program that combined the many concepts she had studied.  Consequently, Your Life by Design; Mind, Body and Zen some… was conceived.  In a broader perspective, the message of this program is that we cannot approach good health from only one point of view and expect to get the best results.  Health is multifaceted and the mind/body is inextricably connected.  We are what we think, we are what we eat, and we are without a doubt how we feel.

Your Life by Design; Mind, Body and Zen some… emphasizes the importance of this and explores health on multiple levels.  “To focus on just one area of health to the exclusion of others is like taking a garden hose to a forest fire”, Ms. Owens says!  For example, to eat well and not exercise, or exercise and have emotional issues will only take us so far in achieving good health.  Just like our finger prints, we are all unique; there is no such thing as a one size fits all!  There are too many variables when it comes to personal health and wellness to have a narrow mindset, it is critical to have a broader perspective.

As a serious advocate for the benefits of using food as medicine, Susie’s on-line program, “What’s on Your Plate? – the series” focuses on how easy it is to make slight adjustment in eating habits that lead to major health benefits.  This workshop is presented in six ‘bite-sized’ sessions and explores the fundamentals of food, shopping and preparation.  You can find Susie at the Luminosity Wellness Center, where she is always available to shares the benefits of self-health and self-care.  Additionally, as an advocate for dōTERRA she hosts regular classes that specifically explores the fascinating world and health benefits of essential oils.
